ILLUMINATING ECHOES
UNDER THE SPELL
As art continues to reinvent itself, what can it tell us about our collective memory? This very question led their inquiry into the world of historical women figures and how they are being retold, represented, and re-empowered today. Walking in the shadows of different contemporary artists—dancers, musicians, craftsmen—their lens follows these artists' stories in parallel to the ones they are retelling, hoping to create an alternative interpretation of our own recounts of the truth. It begs the question: can multiple truths coexist, and who is to decide what can or cannot be told? This project focuses on illuminating subversive voices and art as a form of emancipatory resistance. Anecdotally, Middle Visions itself was birthed as a result of this project and the duo’s shared personal history.
