As art continues to reinvent itself, what can it tell us about our collective memory? This very question led Augustine and Raphaelle into an inquiry of historical women figures—and how their stories are being (re)told, (re)presented, and (re)imagined today. Seeking to illuminate subverted voices and explore art as emancipatory resistance, the project traces the footsteps of contemporary artists—dancers, musicians, craftspeople. Through the duo’s lens, their journeys unfold in parallel with the narratives they revisit, revealing the subjectivity within our own recountings of the truth. This begs the question: Who is to decide what can or cannot be told when multiple truths coexist?Anecdotally, Middle Visions itself was birthed as a result of this project and the duo’s shared personal history.
